The Artisan Aging Humidor is a masterpiece of engineering developed by a cigar enthusiast & furniture manufacturer & inventor — turned humidor manufacturer, Danny Jackson. Danny earned a patent for his original design and manufacturing method for a rocking chair he named The SleighRocker. Shortly after beginning its mass manufacture, his factory suffered a catastrophic 5-alarm fire that consumed every pattern, manufacturing jig and fixture he had spent three years building. The factory and offices were a total loss. As that same time, another line of his furniture designs was experiencing a rapid rise in the office furniture industry, so in rebuilding after the fire the decision was made to re-tool exclusively for its manufacture, effectively abandoning further production of the SleighRocker. A short time later, the world came to a near stand still…Covid. People quit going to work in the offices that were being furnished with his Wood Cubicles Furniture Line, and manufacturing ground to a halt for several months. As such, yet another pivot was required.
One evening while enjoying a cigar on the patio of a cigar lounge, he noticed that nearly everyone seated near him carried with them a portable humidor for their cigars…and they all looked essentially the same. A black molded plastic box with foam rubber padding inside. Cheap & unattractive, yet essentially functional. The woodworker/manufacturer inside him sprang to life again and he founded Benchmark Humidors, producing beautiful handmade wood humidors, often pairing them with world-renowned Saddleback Leather Co. bags that bear Benchmark’s Registered Trademark “Cigar Luggage” brand.
Benchmark continues to grow its presence among cigar enthusiasts all across the country and around the globe. Danny’s time spent among fellow cigar smokers led to developing long term relationships with many boutique manufacturers whose commitment to their craft was not unlike his own. Over time, his appreciation for the hard work and commitment required to develop a brand of any kind in any industry led him to a discovery that he has come to believe may tip the balance in favor of boutique manufacturers for the foreseeable future.
We have designed a way to take advantage of the characteristics of wood, coupled with moisture management and precise air movement required for aging fine cigars. Alas, the postulation of its potential benefit led to the development of a prototype that worked extremely well, even in its first iteration. What has happened since is primarily the employment of furniture manufacturing efficiencies to produce an Artisan Aging Humidor System that is infinitely scalable, quickly and easily reproducible to accommodate orders of almost any size in a short time period. Although this humidor is quickly reproduced en masse, it is not offered for sale. The final working design and its components are a tightly held trade secret.
